Summer Reading 2012
The annual East Baton Rouge Parish Library Summer Reading Programs kicks off in May! This summer is sure to be packed with great books, exciting programs, and fabulous prizes. With a program for every age group, the entire family can participate!
The fun starts on Wednesday, May 23. All locations of the Library will have reading logs for each age group (Children, Teens, and Adults). These logs will be available until Sunday, July 31. While each group has a different theme and guidelines - the goal is the same - to READ!
Dream Big – Read! is this year’s theme for the Children’s Summer Reading Program. Summer activities will feature events that spotlight the performing arts, visual arts, literature, and science – all showing children how to tap into their creative sides.
Children will receive a certificate, a book, and special incentives just for reading! Children who are unable to read may join the read-to-me program and have an adult or older child pledge to read to them.
Reading logs completed and turned in through August 15 will earn children a reading certificate, coupons from area vendors, and a chance to win a special prize from a local business. The program is open to all children, from birth to age 11. For more information, call (225) 231-3760.
The theme for the Teen Summer Reading Program this year is Own the Night. Teens ages 12 to 18 may start their journey by signing up at any library location to begin their quest.
This summer will include a variety of activities: cool crafts, gaming, and book discussions. For every three books read, teens will score an entry into the weekly prize drawing.
Also earn “library bucks” that can go towards any library fine you owe! For the first six books read, teens will receive the best prize packs ever!
We will also have a Teen Digital Media Lab, which will visit each branch to host a video/audio contest. For more information, call (225) 231-3770.
TThe Adult Program, I Geek Reading, for ages 18 and older, will be filled with a variety of exciting events. Adults are asked to read three books in order to receive a summer prize pack.
This year’s prize pack will include a library tote and coupon to the Library’s gift bookstore, Recycled Reads, OR the option to have $3 taken off an existing Library fine. One of the three books can be substituted by attendance to any adult summer program.
There will be weekly drawings for various prizes. At the end of the program, a special drawing will be held for all participants. For more information, call (225) 231-3740.
